The other day I was grabbing a coffee from a local coffee shop here in town and I asked them if they had a website. Sure they did! What business owner today doesn’t, right? So out of curiosity I quickly pulled up their site on my phone and was disappointed. Not because their website sucked or wasn’t pleasing to the eye, it was a good site, just not on a mobile screen.
I’ve found that most business owners understand the fact that their business needs a website. Great! But the internet is always changing and now you not only need a website, you need a responsive web site.
Responsive Web Design (RWD) is a web design approach aimed at crafting sites to provide an optimal viewing experience-easy reading and navigation with a minimum of re-sizing, panning, and scrolling-across a wide range of devices. A responsive website responds to the screen size it is being viewed on and adapts to it accordingly.
MOBILE IS A PRIORITY
Responsive design & mobile first strategies should be a priority primarily because of the staggering statistics of mobile phone usage and the exponential rate in which it continues to grow. Millions of people check their phones more than 30 times a day, ending up on a wide variety of social networks and websites.
– 1 in every 5 people, approx. 1.4 billion people has a smart phone
– 89% use their phone all throughout the day
– 40% of internet use is through mobile devices like smart phones, tablets, and iPads
MOBILE IS THE FIRST IMPRESSION
Taking advantage of this technical revolution we are currently in is a major key to the success of your business. The number of mobile phone usage is so staggering that you should not ignore how your website is presented on mobile devices. Websites that are not optimized for mobile are way more likely to repel mobile users rather than attract them. Potential and existing clients will most likely visit your website through a mobile device. If they visit your website and it’s not responsive or mobile friendly, your chances of obtaining or keeping their business decreases significantly.
MOBILE IS A BUSINESS TOOL
By concentrating on the mobile experience you not only stay ahead of the curve but you use the internet to your advantage. The internet and mobile approach to business is one of the most effective tools for your business growth. It is crucial for your success to use it correctly, efficiently, and effectively.
Every single website should be responsive or mobile friendly in some capacity. Existing static sites should be converted to responsive design and every new site should be created responsive. Responsive design is now the status quo.
GO MOBILE NOW
Is your website responsive? If the answer is no, we strongly recommend, urge, and downright beg you to do something about it. The success of your business does in fact depend on it. If you want to reach your audience in the most effective way possible, then you have to meet them where they’re at – on the go.
